Wake Tech Community College

Wake Technical Community College, also known as WTCC or simply as Wake Tech, is a 2 year college and technical training school in Raleigh, North Carolina. The main campus is actually located 5 miles south of Raleigh, near McCullers Crossroads. The school is a member of the North Carolina Community College System, a state system made up of 58 schools from all over North Carolina. Wake Tech also features several satellite locations all over Wake County.
Wake Tech was established as the Wake County Industrial Education Center in 1958. But the school only began accepting students in 1963. The school’s first year included just over 300 students, with 34 of them registered in curriculum studies and more than 250 enrolled in vocational training programs. In 1987, the school changed its name to the Wake Technical Community College. Wake Tech currently offers around 180 different associate degrees and diplomas and many non-credit continuing education programs.
The main campus of Wake Tech is on 94 acres of urban land found on US 401 between Fuquay-Varina and Raleigh, near the McCullers Crossroads. The campus is made up of 13 buildings that are used for classrooms and the faculty offices. Other buildings on campus include the Student Services buildings, the campus Bookstore, an Independent Learning Center, and a Child Care Center.
Wake Tech Community College is a member of the NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association). 2008 was the inaugural year for competitive sports at Wake Tech. The school competes in Region X. The school fields teams in several sports including soccer, volleyball, golf, basketball, baseball, and softball. The school colors are navy blue and gold and the school nickname are the Eagles.
